Transfers / Cancellations / Refunds / Failure to Attend

  • Requests to transfer/postpone or cancel your IELTS test must be submitted in writing to the center where you planned to test, using the test taker portal or our online form;
  • Postponement or cancellation requests made via telephone will NOT be accepted.
  • These policies below are also found in the IELTS Terms and Conditions you review at registration.

IELTS Test Date Changes (Transfers)

Transfer Fees and Policies

  • 15 days or more before the test date: FREE self-serve through the test taker portal
  • 5 to 14 days before the test date: 25% of test fee
  • 4 days or less before the test date: No transfer available UNLESS you qualify for Special Consideration (see below).
  • An IELTS Test can only be transferred one time. A refund will not be provided if the test taker cannot attend on the new date.
  • The new test date must be within 3 months of the original test date, where available.

How to Transfer your IELTS Test Date Yourself (Available up to 15 days before your test)

  • Log into your IELTS Test Taker Portal. You must select a new available test date which is within the next three months from your original test date and pay the applicable fee to transfer your booking.
  • If you run into any difficulties with the process, please follow the process below or contact your center for assistance.

How to Get Help Transferring your IELTS Test Date (14 days or less before your test)

  • Please download the IELTS request refund or test date transfer form  and fill it in. You must select a test date, where available, within the next three months from your original test date.
  • Return the form along with acceptable documentation* (if required) to the test centre by email by the deadline.
  • The Center Administrator will reply by email to notify you if your transfer is accepted, confirm available dates and Transfer Fee amount
  • Payment of this Transfer Fee is required to complete your transfer.

Candidates must lodge an application for a test day transfer no later than 2 days after the test date.

Selecting a new Test Date

Candidates who have been approved for transfer must select a test date within the next three-month period if available, and this will be approved by the Administrator depending on availability for the selected test date. There may be limited availability for test dates in the first five-week period. Candidates who wish to transfer to a test date more than three months away should apply for a refund and then re-apply for the test.

IELTS Test Cancellations

Cancellation Policy

You can cancel your IELTS test registration at any time before your test date by notifying your Test Centre. Refund terms depend upon when you cancel and whether Special Considerations apply.

    • If you cancel your IELTS test registration more than 14 days before the test: 75% refund of total test fee
    • If you cancel your IELTS test registration within 14 days of the testno refund of test fee UNLESS you qualify for Special Consideration (see below)

How to Cancel your Test

  • Please download the IELTS request refund or test date transfer form  and fill it in.
  • Return the form to the test center by email by the deadline. Be sure to include acceptable documentation* if 14 days or less before the test date.
  • The Center Administrator will reply by email to notify you if you are eligible for a partial refund

Failure to Attend

  • You will NOT receive a refund if you fail to provide proof for Special Consideration within two calendar days after the test date. Applications for special consideration will not be accepted after your results have been released.

Special Consideration

Special consideration may be given for the following:

  • Serious medical conditions which prevent you from attending or performing normally on test day
  • Bereavement
  • Traumatic experience
  • Domestic crisis
  • Unavoidable legal or military obligation
  • Civil unrest
  • Extreme weather

Test takers are required to provide official supporting documentation of such events. Approval will be given at the complete discretion of the test center.

*Acceptable documents may include a medical certificate from a qualified medical practitioner, a death certificate, or a police report. Statutory declarations and certificates signed by family members are not acceptable.
