Transfers / Cancellations / Refunds / Failure to Attend

• Requests to transfer/postpone or cancel your IELTS test must be submitted in writing to the center where you planned to test (email or letter);
• Postponement or cancellation requests made via telephone will NOT be accepted.
• These policies below are also found in the IELTS Terms and Conditions you review at registration.

Transfers

• IELTS on Paper: Transfer requests received more than 5 weeks prior to the test date will be accepted with transfer fee payment of $70.00.
• IELTS on Computer: Transfer requests received more than 3 weeks prior to the test date will be accepted with transfer fee payment of $71.25.
• IELTS on Paper: Transfer requests from an IELTS on Paper to an IELTS on Computer test received more than 5 weeks prior to the original test date will be charged a transfer fee of $25.00.
• IELTS on Computer: Transfer requests from an IELTS on Computer to an IELTS on Paper test received more than 3 weeks prior to the original test date will be charged a transfer fee of $25.00
• IELTS on Paper: Transfer requests received less than 5 weeks prior to the test date due to a medical condition or other Special Consideration will be rescheduled with transfer fee payment of $70.00 (Proof of circumstance must be provided, such as a letter from a physician).
• IELTS on Computer: Transfer requests received less than 3 weeks prior to the test date due to a medical condition or other Special Consideration will be rescheduled with transfer fee payment of  $71.25 (Proof of circumstance must be provided, such as a letter from a physician)
• IELTS on Paper & Computer: A second transfer request due to a medical condition or other Special Consideration will result in cancellation of your registration and a refund of 50% of the cost of the test will be refunded if the test center is notified prior to the test date.

Cancellations

• IELTS on Paper: Cancellation requests received more than 5 weeks prior to the test date will receive a refund less an administrative fee of $70.00.
• IELTS on Computer: Cancellation requests received more than 3 weeks prior to the test date will receive a refund less an administrative fee of $71.25.
• IELTS on Paper: Cancellation requests received less than 5 weeks ahead of the test date will NOT receive a refund.
• IELTS on Computer: Cancellation requests received less than 3 weeks ahead of the test date will NOT receive a refund.

 

Failure to Attend

• You will NOT receive a refund if you fail to provide proof for Special Consideration within 5 days after the test date for IELTS on Paper and within 2 days after the test date for IELTS on Computer.

Special Consideration

Special consideration may be given for the following:

• Serious medical conditions which prevent you from attending or performing normally on test day
• Bereavement
• Traumatic experience
• Domestic crisis
• Unavoidable legal or military obligation
• Civil unrest
• Extreme weather

Test takers are required to provide official supporting documentation of such events. Approval will be given at the complete discretion of the test center.

 

How to Apply for Refunds and Test Day Transfers

Candidates must lodge an application for refund or test day transfer no later than five days after the test date for Paper and no later than 2 days after for Computer.

1. Please download the IELTS request refund or test date transfer form  and fill it in.
2. Return the form along with acceptable documentation* to the test center by email. 
3. The Administrator will advise the candidate within one week of lodging the application whether or not their request has been approved. 

*Acceptable documents may include a medical certificate from a qualified medical practitioner, a death certificate, or a police report. Statutory declarations and certificates signed by family members are not acceptable. 

 

Select a new Test Date

Candidates who have been approved for transfer must select a test date within the next three-month period and this will be approved by the Administrator depending on availability for the selected test date. There may be limited availability for test dates in the first five-week period. Candidates who wish to transfer to a test date more than three months away should apply for a refund and then re-apply for the test.
